Dear orienteering friends! Map commission after several years of presentation and distribution of CD and later DVD – Orienteering Maps in Slovakia started preparation of a new version and upgrade of this CD/DVD as a base for Slovak Orienteering Maps Portal. Main new features of the portal are: - as a map base was taken Google Earth (ortophoto, map or their combination), - possibility to search actively the maps according to map name, club, author, year of edition, type of the map, district, - showing the position and exact surface of mapped area, - showing the map itself on map portal marked with watermark, resolution preventing usage for orienteering competition. Map portal is prepared in six language versions and will be regularly updated with new available orienteering maps. After revealing this version Stand Alone version will be prepared, i.e. DVD version fully functioning after connection to Internet. I would like to thank to all who contributed to the creation of this portal, namely Ministry of Education for financial help, to Miroslav Lago for website upgrade and programming, Martin Bednárik for localization of the O-maps and translations and to Jano Mižúr for translations as well.
